Track & Field shines on Day 1 of C2C Indoor Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track and field teams opened their title chase in fashion on Day 1 of the 2026 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon at the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University.

The Sea Gull women closed the first day of competition with 42.33 points, good for third place behind hosts CNU (47.33) and also just behind second-place UC Santa Cruz (46.33). The Sea Gull men also slotted in third with 28 points, trailing CNU (64) and narrowly behind UC Santa Cruz (28).

Women Day 1 Meet Notes
  • Anna Bodmer started the afternoon with a C2C Indoor Meet Record in the 5000-meter run, finishing with a time of 17:46.19, which earned her gold and First-Team All-C2C honors.
  • Mia Hill tied her own school and C2C record in the long jump at 5.62 meters (18-05.25), earning gold along with First-Team All-C2C honors. This also placed her 25th in the nation. Marlyse Haack grabbed silver and Second-Team honors with a jump of 5.50 meters (18-00.50), which placed her 48th in the country.
  • Kailey Jarboe earned 4th place in the weight throw at 12.64 meters (41-05.75).
  • Kaitlyn Stevens grabbed 4th in the high jump at 1.51 meters (4-11.50).
  • The 4000-meter distance medley relay team of Miranda Bournique, Lilly Williams, Peri Nelson, and Leah Snyder earned All-C2C Second Team honors, finishing with a silver medal in a time of 12:54.64.

Men Day 1 Meet Notes
  • Kai Smith smoked the school record in the 60-meter prelims with a time of 6.70, which tallied as a C2C meet record. That time placed him 3rd in the country.
  • The 4000-meter distance medley relay team of Connor Kinch, Hayden Myers, Justin Freeman, and Cormac Moroney struck gold with a school record and C2C record time of 10:26.60. That time earned them All-C2C First Team and placed them 23rd in the country.
  • The Sea Gulls tallied three runners in the top 10 of the 5000-meter run. Tristan Dutton took home bronze with a time of 14:41.28, which placed him 52nd in the nation. Landon Lewicki grabbed 7th just outside of the points mark with a time of 14:54.85, while Gabe Riling earned 8th with a time of 14:56.03.
  • Peyton Dill and Christian Arturi earned points in the pole vault, placing 4th and 5th, respectively. Dill earned 4th at 3.96 meters (12-11.75), while Arturi earned 5th at 3.76 meters (12-04.00).
  • SU posted three in the top five of the weight throw. Logan Kelsch earned silver and All-C2C Second Team with a throw of 16.15 meters (53-00.00). Mason Breeze placed third at 15.62 meters (51-03.00), while Jacob Reeves earned 5th at 15.19 meters (49-10.00).
The Sea Gulls will conclude their run at the C2C Indoor Championships with Day 2 on Saturday. The first events from the Freeman Center are set for 10 a.m. The women have 11 events remaining, while on the men's side, they have 12 events remaining.
