Miyashita smashes 200 fly record at Battle of the Birds

Freshman’s NCAA B-cut performance highlights last-chance swimming meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Select members of the Salisbury University women's and men's swimming teams took final aim at the national leaderboards at the Battle of the Birds, a last-chance meet hosted by Catholic on Saturday afternoon at DuFour Center Pool.

MEET NOTES
  • Libby Miyashita stole the show with a record-breaking performance in the 200-yard butterfly, knocking nearly two seconds off her previous best with a time of 2:03.27. The mark establishes a new Sea Gull program and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) record and also puts Miyashita above the NCAA B-cut line in the event, making her eligible to earn an invite to nationals next month.
  • Isabelle Salvatore also set a new SU record in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall in 57.31 seconds to break the mark she set last week at the NJAC Championships.
  • Sadie Hebert narrowly missed the B-cut in the 1,650 freestyle but still dropped nearly 12 seconds from her personal best, touching up in 17:22.45.
  • Mackenzie Gula swam a 30.45-second 50 breaststroke as the SU women's fourth competitor at the meet.
  • Mason Potts swam in two events on the day, improving by a fifth of a second in the 50 fly (22.78) and testing the waters in the 1,000 free (10:42.28).
  • Aidan Loehr swam a 25.87 in the 50 breast and a 52.39 in the 100 individual medley, improving by over a second in the latter.

The Sea Gulls' top athletes and relay teams will learn of their NCAA Division III Championships fate in the coming weeks, with the official psych sheet for nationals set to be published online on Monday, Mar. 2, at 8 p.m.
