NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track and field men's team earned second place while the women placed third at the Coast-to-Coast Indoor Conference Championships inside the Freeman Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University Saturday afternoon.
Anna Bodmer was named Female Track Athlete of the Meet on the women's side, while
Kai Smith earned Male Track Athlete of the Meet on the men's side for the Sea Gulls.
The Sea Gull men closed the competition with 146 points, good for second place behind meet winner CNU (166) and ahead of third-place UC Santa Cruz (135). The Sea Gull women finished in third with 119.33 points, trailing meet winner CNU (158.33) and narrowly behind second-place UC Santa Cruz (129.33). SU saw multiple records fall this weekend, with multiple student-athletes earning podium finishes heading back to Salisbury with hardware.
Women's Day 2 Meet Notes
- Marlyse Haack broke her own school record and C2C meet record in the triple jump at 11.47 meters (37-07.75), earning First-Team All-C2C and 1st place for the event. This jump placed her 18th in the country.
- Bodmer grabbed gold in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:07.60 for First-Team All-C2C.
- The 4x400 relay team of Haack, Karia Forvil, Jenna Howe, and Emma Smyser earned First-Team All-C2C, grabbing gold with a time of 4:02.99.
- Kailey Jarboe took home bronze in the shot put at 10.21 meters (33-06.00), while Lexi Frick also earned points in 6th at 9.68 meters (31-09.25).
- Smyser and Sofia DelRosso-Freeman earned points in the pole vault, placing 4th and 5th, respectively. Smyser earned 4th at 2.89 meters (9-05.75), while DelRosso-Freeman placed 4th at 2.69 meters (8-09.75).
- Hayden Adams grabbed a point in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 6th with a time of 9.67.
- Smyser earned bronze in the 400-meter with a time of 1:00.88, right along Howe, who posted the same time. Howe and Smyser also earned points in the 200-meter, placing 5th and 6th with times of 26.99 and 27.10.
- Forvil earned bronze in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.87. She went on to earn All-C2C Second-Team with a second-place finish in the 200-meter with a time of 25.76.
- Peri Nelson grabbed bronze in the 800-meter with a time of 2:22.95.
Men's Day 2 Meet Notes
- Jon Alicea struck gold in the triple jump at 14.37 meters (47-01.75), which placed him 31st in the country and earned him First-Team All-C2C.
- Smith tallied gold in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.78, earning First-Team All-C2C. He also went on to earn Gold in the 200-meter with a time of 21.68.
- Jair Clinton earned gold and First-Team All-C2C in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.66. Andrew Moxley and Gabriel Kvadus also earned points for SU, placing 5th and 6th, respectively. Moxley earned 5th with a time of 8.96, while Kvadus earned 6th at 9.03.
- The 4x400 relay team of Andrew Osler, Hayden Myers, Sean McHugh, and Samuel Bradley earned First-Team All-C2C, grabbing gold with a time of 3:24.47.
- Justin Freeman grabbed silver in the 800-meter with a time of 1:55.05, earning Second-Team All-C2C.
- Ryan Gorman grabbed bronze in the high jump at 1.81 meters (5-11.25).
- The Sea Gulls placed three in the top six of the shot put. Logan Aldridge earned bronze at 14.83 meters (48-08.00), while Xavion Fidele and Joshua Rowe placed 5th and 6th, respectively. Fidele placed 5th at 14.34 meters (47-00.75), and Rowe tallied 6th at 13.97 meters (45-10.00).
- Cormac Moroney earned bronze in the mile with a time of 4:21.79, while Connor Kinch placed 5th with a time of 4:23.48.
- The Sea Gulls placed three in the top six of the 400-meter run. Osler earned Second-Team All-C2C with a silver place finish at a time of 50.67. Bradley and Myers earned 5th and 6th with times of 51.43 and 51.76. Osler also finished second in the 200-meter with a time of 22.65, and Bradley placed 6th with a time of 22.87.
- Tristan Dutton earned a point in the 3000-meter run with a 6th-place finish at 8:51.03.
The Sea Gulls concluded their indoor season, except for select athletes who will compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference meet in New York, N.Y., on March 6th and 7th. NCAA qualifiers will be announced in the coming weeks for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The outdoor season begins at home in Salisbury, Md., at the SU Track & Field Complex when the Sea Gulls host the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet on March 7th at 11 a.m.
