Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The fourth-seeded Salisbury University men's basketball team trailed 38-30 at halftime against fifth-seeded Warren Wilson, but a 53-point second stanza handed the Sea Gulls (11-14) a spot in tomorrow's semifinal action with an 83-72 victory.
The Owls (6-16) scored 16 of the first 20 points during the first seven minutes of the contest. A five-point stretch from
Patrick Wynne brought the score to 18-11 midway through the half.
Warren Wilson elevated their advantage to 34-19 with 4:24 left in the frame. An 11-4 run brought the deficit within single digits heading into the break. An
Aidan Camper triple, accompanied by buckets from
Daniel Oyediran,
Leon Elung,
Churchill Bounds and
Elijah Bryan helped bring the momentum back SU's way.
A 13-4 spurt to start the second session put the Maroon and Gold in front.
Jamison Graves hit a three-pointer twelve seconds after play restarted, then Camper followed suit with a three-pointer of his own. Oyediran and Bounds scored in the paint, and Graves drew and sank three consecutive free throws to make 43-42 Salisbury.
The run continued for the Gulls, outpacing the Owls 13-2 in the next three minutes of play. Oyediran and Graves led the charge with six and five points each, respectively.
Salisbury held down the lead from that point, not letting Warren Wilson get within seven to secure the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Oyediran scored a team-high 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed eight boards.
- Elung recorded his third double-double of the year, scoring 14 points and securing 11 rebounds.
- Camper went 3-for-5 from downtown and scored 12 points.
- Graves added in 16 points.
- The Sea Gulls out rebounded the Owls 44-22.
- Salisbury shot 45.5 percent (30-66) from the field, 30.0 percent (6-20) from beyond the arc and 53.1 percent (17-32) from the charity stripe.
The Sea Gulls advance to the semifinals to take on the top-seeded Mary Washington Eagles. Tipoff from West Field House is set for 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
