Women's Basketball earns C2C Title spot with Semifinal win over JWU

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program earned a spot in the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament Championship for the first time since 2015 after rolling past Johnson & Wales - Charlotte 78-57 in the C2C Semifinals Friday night inside Maggs Gymnasium. 

The Wildcats (17-7) jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, before the Sea Gulls (17-10) finished the first quarter of action on a 17-6 run, earning a 19-13 advantage heading into the second quarter of action. Both teams shot over 35 percent from the floor in the quarter. With just under two minutes in the quarter, Kayla Nieberlein knocked down her first career three-pointer, she finished with 13 points, two rebounds, one block and one assist. She shot five of seven from the field. 

The Sea Gulls kept the momentum rolling in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 18-11. The SU defense held JWU to just 17 percent from the field shooting, while posting a 40 percent shooting mark as a team. Salisbury headed into the halftime break with a 13-point lead. 

The third quarter proved to be much of the same, as the Sea Gulls won the third quarter battle 18-11, the exact score of the second quarter. SU entered the final quarter of action with a 20-point advantage and cruised to the C2C Tournament Championship game. 

Nicole Miller lead all scorers with 15 points, while adding four rebounds, and three assists. The Sea Gulls tallied four players in double figures. Kisa Lilly tallied 13 points with a career-high nine assists and seven rebounds. 

Game Notes
- Keturah Stewart posted 10 points with four rebounds and three assists. 
- The SU defense racked up nine steals while causing 19 turnovers and holding JWU to a 27 percent shooting percentage from the floor.
- The Sea Gulls shot 43 percent from the floor for the game and won the rebound battle 44-42.

The Sea Gulls are set to battle the Captains of Christopher Newport University tomorrow at 7 p.m. from Maggs Gymnasium with the C2C Tournament Championship on the line.
