Fourth quarter push earns Women’s Basketball win over Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball program earned a 60-56 road victory Wednesday night over Franklin and Marshall inside the Mayser Center.

Salisbury (13-8) earned a tight advantage in the first quarter, 14-13 over Franklin and Marshall (11-10). Despite shooting 50 percent from the field in the second quarter, SU was outscored 20-16 and headed into the halftime break facing a three-point deficit.

The Diplomats carried that momentum into the third quarter, edging out the Sea Gulls 17-16 and adding to their lead. SU hit two threes in the quarter and shot 37 percent from the field, but headed into the final quarter of action trailing by four.

The Sea Gulls flipped the script in the fourth quarter, holding F&M to just six points and outscoring them by eight to earn the four-point victory. The SU defense held the Diplomats to just 18 percent shooting from the field and zero for eight from three-point range. Salisbury finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to pull away and earn the road victory 60-56.

Nicole Miller, who just posted a career-high in her last outing, posted a game-high 20 points with two rebounds and two assists. Abby Plaugher tallied 14 points and two rebounds to be the other Sea Gull in double figures.

  • Kayla Nieberlein posted eight points with eight rebounds.
  • Kisa Lilly posted an all-around game with nine rebounds, six assists, four points, and two steals.
  • Keturah Stewart scored eight points with four rebounds and two steals.
  • The Sea Gulls won the rebound battle 38-34 and grabbed 13 offensive boards.
  • SU finished shooting 42 percent from the field for the game.
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Saturday when they travel Swarthmore for a 1 p.m. start.
