SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Salisbury University women's basketball program earned a 63-60 win over Swarthmore College Saturday afternoon inside Tarble Pavilion for their third consecutive win.
Nicole Miller entered the 1,000-career-points club for the Sea Gulls on the afternoon after scoring 11 points. She becomes part of an elite club with just over 20 members, marking the first player since Salisbury Hall of Famer
Anna Hackett has achieved this distinction.
Salisbury (14-8) came out of the gates shooting the ball hot, posting a 64 percent shooting percentage in the first quarter with two three-pointers. But the Garnet (6-14) also shot 64 percent from the floor and led 19-18 at the end of the opening quarter of action. The first quarter included seven lead changes and five ties.
The Sea Gull offense kept rolling in the second quarter, outscoring Swarthmore 17-10 and earning a 35-29 halftime lead. SU shot 46 percent from the floor in the second, while holding the Garnet to just 33 percent. The Sea Gull defense also caused four turnovers in the quarter.
The teams struggled to get rolling after the halftime break, only combining for two made baskets in the first four minutes of action. The teams would quickly get things going to go on and tie the third quarter 16-16. The Sea Gulls headed into the final quarter of play with a six-point lead.
The Garnet would not go down without a fight, starting off the fourth quarter on a quick 6-2 run and narrowing the SU lead to just two. Swarthmore would tie the game up with three minutes remaining before
Keturah Stewart drilled a three-pointer, giving the lead back to Salisbury.
The Garnet cut the lead to one with 35 seconds remaining, but free throws from
Abby Plaugher, Jen Juhring, and Stewart would close the door on Swarthmore.

- Kayla Nieberlein tallied 10 points with six rebounds.
- Juhring posted a team-high seven rebounds.
- SU won the rebound battle 33-27 and grabbed nine offensive boards.
- The Sea Gull defense caused 17 turnovers and scored 19 points off those turnovers.
