Track & Field wraps up Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge in style

CONWAY, S.C. - The Salisbury University track and field teams wrapped up their St. Patrick's Day weekend at the beach with school records and solid performances on day two of the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

The Sea Gull men finished in 4th place out of 22 programs with 55 points as the highest Division III program at the meet. Appalachian State won the event, with Coastal Carolina in 2nd, and UNC-Wilmington in 3rd. The Sea Gull women finished 6th out of 21 programs with 26 points, also as the highest Division III program at the meet. UNC-Wilmington won the event, with Appalachian State earning 2nd and Coastal Carolina rounding out the top three.

Men Meet Notes
  • Cormac Moroney started the day with a school record in the 3000-meter with a time of 8:37.49, which placed him 5th. Tristan Dutton placed 8th in the event with a time of 8:45.75, which also would have taken down the previous school record before Moroney took matters into his own hands.
  • Justin Freeman tallied 4th place in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:00.89.
  • Jair Clinton earned 7th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.42. He also finished 11th in the 400-meter hurdles at 57.81.
  • Andrew Osler posted a top 10 finish in the 400-meter with a time of 49.12, which placed him 8th. He also went on to place 9th in the 200-meter with a time of 22.21.
  • The Sea Gulls placed two in the top six of the 3000-meter steeplechase. Connor Kinch placed 3rd at 9:38.84, and Seth Barron tallied 6th with a time of 10:03.37.
  • The Sea Gulls tallied three in the top 10 of the discus. Logan Kelsch tallied 2nd at 49.58 meters (162-08), Mason Breeze earned 8th with a throw of 45.75 meters (150-01), and Jacob Reeves earned 10th at 44.61 meters (146-04).
  • Ryan Gorman tallied 3rd in the high jump at 1.80 meters (5-10.75).
  • Logan Aldridge earned 7th in the shot put at 14.45 meters (47-05.00).
Women Meet Notes
  • Marisa Servis earned 12th in the 1500-meter with a time of 5:02.68.
  • Jenna Howe placed 5th in the 400-meter with a personal best time of 59.27.
  • Peri Nelson earned 8th in the 800-meter with a personal best time of 2:20.66.
  • Brooke Hamer tallied 6th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.00.
  • The Sea Gulls tallied two in the top 10 of the 3000-meter steeplechase. Mia Malizia earned 8th at 12:20.73, while Leah Snyder finished right behind her in 9th with a time of 12:28.98.
  • Kaitlyn Stevens posted a 2nd-place finish in the high jump at 1.50 meters (4-11.00).
  • Emma Christman tallied 10th in the triple jump with a jump of 10.29 meters (33-09.25).
The Sea Gulls are back in action on March 28th at the Blue & Silver Challenge in Newport News, Va.
