INDIANAPOLIS – Rookie sensation
Cameron Byrd of the 18th-ranked Salisbury University men's swimming team secured his team's second All-America nod of the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships as part of Day 2 of action on Thursday at the IU Natatorium.
Byrd (Fr. – Bear, Del.) was dubbed a Second-Team All-American in the 100-yard butterfly, adding to his Second-Team honor as a member of the 400 medley relay on Wednesday. Byrd swam the event in 47.87 in the morning preliminaries, placing ninth and missing out on First-Team laurels by a mere two hundredths of a second. In the evening finals, Byrd made it official by placing 15th in 48.54 seconds.
"Cam has put together an incredible season," said Sea Gull head coach
Nate Parsley in the leadup to nationals. "The time he's achieved in the 100 butterfly as a freshman speaks to the level he's capable of racing at. I don't think he's done yet, and that's what's most impressive about him."
Joining Byrd in the water for the 100 fly was
Mason Potts, who placed 32nd in prelims at 48.87 seconds. The Sea Gull men also put together a quartet in the 200 freestyle relay;
Michael DeSimone,
Michael Paulos, Byrd, and Potts teamed up for a 1:21.97 mark that placed 21st.
Byrd's two points give Salisbury eight over the first two days of the championship meet, good for 32nd in the overall team standings.
The Sea Gulls will line competitors up in the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 fly, and 800 free relay on a busy Day 3 at the NCAA Championships on Friday. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. and lead into finals at 6 p.m.
