Softball earns Youth Day Sweep over Manhattanville

Lord tallies 200th career win at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program posted a clean sweep over Manhattanville University Saturday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. Head coach Lacey Lord earned her 200th career win at SU after the first game. Lord has posted a 201-68 overall record during her time as the leader of the Sea Gulls, with five NCAA appearances and two College World Series appearances. The Sea Gulls (10-8) earned the first win in walk-off fashion, 8-7, before rolling past the Valiants (6-6) in game two, 9-4.

Both offenses were firing on all cylinders during game one. The Sea Gulls posted three runs in the second inning and two in the third to take an early 5-0 lead. Isabella Purdy posted three shutout innings early in the circle for SU. Purdy finished with a career-high six strikeouts in six innings of work.

All three runs came with two outs for the Sea Gulls in the second. Lexie Delcollo singled to get things rolling and would come around to score off an RBI double from Avery Cozzi. Sam Flowers earned the other two RBIs in the inning off a single. Karlie Wolfe led things off with a single in the third, which was followed by a two-run home run from Audrey March to give SU the 5-0 lead.

Manhattanville went on to tally seven runs in the next three innings to grab a late two-run lead. The Valiants scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth to tie it, and two in the sixth to take the lead. The Sea Gulls did not go down without a fight; they went on to score three runs, all with two outs, to earn the game one victory. Delcollo roped a two RBI double to left center field that scored March and Alayna Gigliotti to walk it off.

In the game two win, the Sea Gulls cruised to a 9-4 victory. The Valiants struck first in the top of the first with one run, but the Sea Gulls matched it with three in the bottom of the inning. Flowers walked to lead it off, and would come around to score off a SAC fly from Wolfe. March posted an RBI double in the inning, and Savannah Reedy posted an RBI single. Wolfe smashed a two-run home run in the second inning to extend the Sea Gull lead to 5-1.

Manhattanville responded with three runs in the third to make it a one-run game, but Madison McGinnis entered the game in the inning and slammed the door on the MU offense the rest of the way. McGinnis earned the win, posting four strikeouts in five innings of shutout work, while only allowing two hits. The Sea Gulls tallied four more runs in the game, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth, to cruise to the Saturday Sweep of the Valiants.
