Second half shutdown lifts No. 5 Men’s Lacrosse past Trinity (Conn.)

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 5 Salisbury University men's lacrosse program posted a bounce-back win over Trinity College (Conn.) 11-5 Saturday afternoon inside Sea Gull Stadium during their annual Lax for Leukemia game.

The Sea Gulls (9-2) earned a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter, in which the teams traded the lead back and forth. After SU scored first, the Bantams (5-4) rattled off two goals to edge out in front. Connor Herraiz tied things up off an assist by Tristan Plotts, before Ryan Della gave SU the lead back off an assist from Riley Strub. That was Della's second goal of the quarter.

Salisbury edged out into a two-goal lead heading into the halftime break. Strub tallied the first goal of the quarter before Trinity posted back-to-back goals to once again tie things up. Long pole Bryce Stevenson bounced one home to put SU back in the lead with five minutes remaining before the half. Trent Lucovich tallied a goal with under a minute remaining off an assist by Herraiz, giving the Sea Gulls the two-goal halftime lead.

The Salisbury defense ramped up its intensity in the second half, shutting out the Bantams in the third quarter and allowing only one goal in the fourth. SU outscored Trinity (Conn.) 5-1 in the second half to secure the 11-5 victory.

Trent Lucovich, who ended the game with a career-high five goals on seven shot attempts along with seven ground balls, scored four of his five goals in the dominating third quarter for the Sea Gulls.
