Women’s Golf tops field after Sea Gull Invitational keynote

Brosius sports three-stroke lead halfway through inaugural home tourney

QUANTICO, Md. – The Salisbury University women's golf team holds a commanding lead halfway through the inaugural Sea Gull Invitational, whose first round was played on Saturday at Green Hill Country Club.
 
The Sea Gulls carded a 56-over 344 as a team, two strokes off the team's best single-round score of the modern era. Texas Lutheran (378) finished the round a distant second, with Arcadia (428) and SUNY Cobleskill (455) rounding out the field of four teams.
 
ROUND NOTES
  • Krista Brosius entered the clubhouse atop the leaderboard of 23 individuals, carding an eight-over 80 for the day and leading second-place Belle Asbury of Texas Lutheran by three strokes. Brosius finished strong with birdies on par-five 15 and par-four 17.
  • Emma Wivell, Sydney Lynott, and Victoria Heid each shot 16-over 88s and sit in a five-way tie for third. Wivell birdied the first and eighth holes, while Lynott birdied seven and Heid six.
  • Madison Tipton posted the SU team's drop score at a 37-over 109, good for a tie for 14th.
  • Kaeli Newcomb competed as an individual and placed 12th in the round with a 32-over 104.
  • Cailin McCoy shot a 38-over 110 as an individual to place 16th, and Caroline Fitzgerald individually carded a 51-over 123 to take 19th.
 
The Sea Gulls will look to close out their season with another team title in the second and final round of the Sea Gull Invitational on Sunday. Seniors Madison Tipton and Emma Wivell will be honored with a ceremony at 8:40 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
