SALISBURY, Md. – On the evening of Feb. 11, 2026, Salisbury hosted a basketball doubleheader against archrival Christopher Newport inside the Maggs Physical Activities Center. Staffing the games were a
full slate of Sea Gull Sports Network (SGSN) student workers, who made sure the broadcast and game operations went off without a hitch for the over 1,200 unique viewers who tuned in that night. Joining them in and around Maggs Gym were three recent SU graduates who first cut their teeth with the student streaming network before joining local media outlets.
Taking pictures in an official capacity for Sea Gull athletics was
Hannah Reagle '23, who joined FotoJoe Photography as a full-time employee right after graduation to cover a wide range of high school, college, and professional sports. Reagle also doubles with the Delmarva Shorebirds as a graphic designer and works in the press box for the Orioles affiliate during summer gamedays.
"SGSN led me to the jobs I have now," said Reagle, who worked as a camera operator and computer technician for the network for three years and
snapped some of the most recognizable pictures from the 2023 men's lacrosse national championship game. "I learned multiple rolls, so I can help out wherever I am needed. I also had the chance to work with every SU varsity sport, which helped me get to know more about each sport and their athletes."
Working inside the on-site Delmarva Sports Network (DSN) production truck was
Ben Winebrenner '25, who signed on with parent company Draper Media as a live broadcast and studio director shortly after earning his degree. Winebrenner became one of SGSN's top production technicians during his three years with the network, regularly serving in the Sea Gull Stadium press box during NCAA Tournament broadcasts for football, field hockey, and lacrosse.
"SGSN helped me understand how to tell the story of sports during live broadcasts," said Winebrenner. "Obviously I learned how to click the buttons and set the audio, but the important part was learning how to tell the stories of the athletes and their teams through their performances."
Representing the other major Salisbury media outlet was
Chris Brunk '23, covering the games for WMDT as an anchor and sports reporter; after shooting highlights and interviewing another SGSN alum in women's basketball coach
Aprile Preller '19 Guy, Brunk went back to the studio to produce the package for the late local news.
"My time at SGSN laid the foundation for so many skills I use on a daily basis at work," said Brunk, a former on-air commentator for SGSN who broadcasted, among other big games, Salisbury men's lacrosse's run to the 2023 national championship. "Beyond kindling my passion for broadcast media, it's not an overstatement to say that I owe my start in the industry entirely to SGSN."
Reagle, Winebrenner, and Brunk are
only three of the notable sports and media professionals SGSN has churned out in its 15 years on the air. Their accomplishments and the continued excellence of contemporary SGSN employees ensure that the sterling reputation of one of Division III's top all-around athletics departments extends to the "team behind the teams."
