BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. – The sun may have set before the Salisbury University women's golf team could finish round one of the season-opening Shenandoah Chinatown Invitational, but that didn't stop
Krista Brosius from making program history on Saturday afternoon at Cacapon Resort State Park.
The Sea Gulls finished play sitting fourth in the field of 17 teams at 30 over par, with four of its five golfers still needing to complete their final two or three holes at the time the competition was called due to darkness. SU will begin Sunday just two strokes back of third-ranked Marymount (Va.) [+28], with Susquehanna (+23) and Batten (+26) sitting first and second.
ROUND NOTES
- Krista Brosius began her sophomore campaign by shooting the lowest single round in modern Sea Gull history, carding a four-over 76 with one birdie and a steady 12 pars, including four straight on the final four holes. Brosius, who improved on her own program-best round by two strokes, entered the clubhouse tied for fifth in the field of 91 individuals and five back of the lead. She was the only SU golfer to complete her round on the day.
- Stella Jaffe completed 16-of-18 holes before darkness and is currently five over par, good for a tie for seventh. Jaffe logged birdies on three holes.
- Ava Kelly is currently eight over par with three holes to complete for the round, good for a tie for 18th.
- Sydney Lynott has two holes remaining in her round and currently sits tied for 38th at 13 over.
- Cailin McCoy slotted 82nd at 25 over and has three holes to go for the round.
The Sea Gulls will complete their final holes of round one and transition into the second and final round of the Shenandoah Chinatown Invitational on Sunday. Tee time is penciled in for 9 a.m.
