ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer program rattled off a fourth straight victory on Sunday afternoon at Jaime L. Roberts Stadium, holding on to a 2-1 win over the Baruch College Bearcats to mark SU's best start through five games since 2014.
The first shot of the game came in the 11th minute from
David Brunetti, whose bid was destined for the top left quadrant of the net, but was stopped by Baruch's (0-4-0) Dzmitry Piatrashka to keep the game scoreless. The Sea Gulls (4-0-1) led 8-1 in the shot department halfway through the match.
Salisbury got on the board first after almost nine minutes of play in the second half after
Jack Schwarz sent a pop-up towards the goal that glanced off the keeper's hands and into a yawning cage.
SU's second tally came from
Liam Pierce earning a foul inside the box that set up Brunetti to blast home the penalty kick and double the Salisbury lead.
On-target attempts from
George Ogilvie and
Yasseen Mohamed were turned aside in the following moments. Salisbury received a red card in the 82nd minute and committed a foul inside the box six minutes later, leading to Baruch's loan marker on the afternoon.
The Sea Gull defense held out afterwards to hammer down the match.
GAME NOTES
The Sea Gulls head back to the Eastern Shore to host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, with kickoff commencing at 4 p.m.
