Women’s Soccer downed by Batten in midweek affair

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Salisbury University women's soccer team dropped Wednesday evening's contest with the Batten University Marlins, 2-0 at Foster Field.

The Sea Gulls (0-5-1) got an early shot from Brooke Spadin that missed wide before Riley Kinzeler met her first test of the night by saving Alaina Alston in the 14th minute. The Marlins (4-0-1) sieged SU's defense with three consecutive shots with 10 minutes remaining in the half; Kinzeler and company came up with answers for the first two shots, but Courtney Mills of BU eventually broke through to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
Mills generated another chance and was stuffed by Kinzeler right before the close of the first 45.

Lillian Hutchings marched in search of the equalizer to start the second stanza, but her attempt went off target. Aley Martins rejected Alexis Manfredi of Batten moments later; however, the Marlins would climb ahead by two via a 62nd-minute tally from Alston.

The Sea Gulls got a final look from Skylar Williams that stayed from the team save before the final whistle blew.
