SALEM, Va. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team extended its winning streak to six on Saturday by taking down the Roanoke College Maroons 1-0 on a 77th-minute tally from
Harry Vasilios.
The Sea Gulls (6-0-1) tested Maroons (2-4-0) keeper Denzel Marufu five times during the first segment and led Roanoke 5-2 in the shots on goal department.
Marufu denied two shots from David Brunetti and shots from Liam Pierce, Michelangelo Parravano and Tanner Calzado in the first 30 minutes of play.
Nate Jones made a stop in the 42nd minute to keep the match scoreless going into the break.
Pierce had the first chance of the second stanza a minute after play resumed, only to be turned aside. A pair of attempts from
Noah Blankensop were next to be denied, followed by a bid from
Kai Lindsay that didn't fall.
The Sea Gull persisted with pressure on the RC defense. Blankensop's third saved shot led to Brunetti hitting the post. Seconds later, SU earned a corner. Lindsay swept in a cross from the flag onto the head from Vasilios, who snuck his header into the top right corner to give the Sea Gulls a hard-earned 1-0 lead.
Roanoke frantically looked for an equalizer and mustered up a final-minute shot that was thwarted by Jones to put the match on ice.

- Noah Blankensop logged four shots, with three going on target.
- Nate Jones collected his fourth clean sheet in seven games played. The Sea Gull defense has allowed two goals, which is the lowest in program history through seven games since 2010.
The Sea Gulls prime themselves for a test tomorrow when they face No. 10 Lynchburg at Shellenberger Field, with kickoff slated for 2 p.m.
