CENTRAL VALLEY, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team used an 88th-minute goal from
Tanner Calzado to earn a 1-0 victory over the DeSales University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides were held without a shot on target until Abu Barrie fired on goal for the Bulldogs (4-3-1) roughly midway through the first segment, only to be turned down by
Clif Nehman of the Sea Gulls (7-1-1). SU held a 7-5 edge in shots during the first half, but didn't place any on goal.
Salisbury would test the DU defense with a shot from
David Brunetti a minute after the breather. Nehman weathered the storm in net for the Sea Gulls, picking up four more saves to keep DeSales off the board.
The Sea Gulls would put up the only tally of the match after
Liam Pierce sent in a corner and connected with Calzado to give the Maroon and Gold a late game-winner.
GAME NOTES
- Tanner Calzado scored his first goal of the season and recorded his first game-winner since August 30, 2024.
- Liam Pierce picked up his first helper of the campaign. Pierce picked up his 11th point of the year and is second in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference in points.
- David Brunetti took five shots, with one going on goal.
- Clif Nehman made his first appearance of the year and made seven saves to earn his third career shutout.
The Sea Gulls host No. 9 Catholic on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. inside the Gerry DiBartolo Sea Gull Soccer Complex.
