GALLOWAY, N.J. - The No. 5 Salisbury University field hockey program earned a 1-0 victory over Stockton University in a defensive battle Sunday afternoon from Stockton Turf Field.
Salisbury (2-0) found the game winning goal early in the contest, seven minutes into the first frame of action, the Sea Gulls scored off a penalty corner when
Ryan Lowe found the back of the goal off an assist from
Layla Kent.
Both teams finished the first quarter with three shots and one penalty corner opportunity. Salisbury swarmed Stockton (2-1) in the second quarter with eight shots to zero and three penalty corners to zero but could not find a second goal.
Salisbury outshot Stockton 7-5 in the second half but neither team could break the line as the Sea Gulls held on to the 1-0 road victory.
Maddie Castaneda made a game clinching save with under one minute remaining to shut the door.

- Castaneda earned her first career shutout victory in goal for the Maroon & Gold with four saves.
The Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday when they host Washington College (Md.) inside Sea Gull Stadium at 6 p.m.
