A 2009 inductee into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame, Dawn Chamberlin completed her 38th season as the head coach of the Salisbury University field hockey program in 2024-25.

Notable Games as Head Coach

  • Nov. 22, 2003 – Salisbury beats Middlebury, 4-1 to win her first NCAA Championship
  • Nov. 20, 2004 – Salisbury caps off a perfect season with a 6-3 win over Middlebury to repeat as national champions
  • Nov. 19, 2005 – The three-peat is complete as Salisbury downs Messiah 1-0 in the title game
  • Nov. 21-22, 2009 – Back-to-back 1-0 wins over Tufts and Messiah in the NCAA Final Four to capture the program’s fourth national championship
  • Sept. 29, 2012 – Became the fifth coach in NCAA Division III history and 12th coach in all of the NCAA to eclipse 400 wins with a 3-1 win over York
  • Oct. 31, 2018 – Collected her 500th career win with a 3-0 shutout win over Mary Washington. Chamberlin is only the 11th coach in NCAA history with 500-plus wins

Playing Career

Chamberlin was a four-year letter winner at the University of Iowa. The Hawkeyes won three straight Big Ten championships from 1981 to 1983 before sharing the title in 1984. Chamberlin, a co-captain on the team her junior and senior seasons, was an All-Big Ten selection and finished as the NCAA Tournament national runner-up in 1984. Chamberlin also collected a national indoor championship during her time in Iowa City.

While at Iowa, she also received the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Academic Award (1982-85) and the Physical Education Academic Achievement Award (1983-85).

Personal Life

Chamberlin is a 1985 graduate of the University of Iowa. Chamberlin went on to earn her Master of Education degree from Salisbury in 1987 and her doctorate from the University of Maryland in 2000.
