WASHINGTON, D.C. - The 25th-ranked Salisbury
University men's soccer team earned its first win of the season
with an impressive offensive showing, 8-3, over Catholic University
on the road in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
The Sea Gulls (1-0-1, 1-0-0 CAC) scored the game's first two
goals, less then five minutes in, and led 6-1 at the half against
the Cardinals (0-1-1, 0-1-0 CAC).
After a Catholic goal at the 11th minute, Salisbury senior
midfielder Layne Crothers scored, two seconds later, on the ensuing
kickoff.
Salisbury received first half goals from Dico Doran, Scott
Sparrow, Crothers, Zach Grubb, Dave Kroening and Kyle Sterling.
The Cardinals scored two goals early in the second half,
highlighted by Matt Brady's second goal of the game at the 54th
minute.
Salisbury put the game away on a T.J. Nairn penalty kick and a
late unassisted goal by Jason Smith.
SU will head south to Raleigh, N.C. this weekend to participate
in the Esprit Division III Classic where the Gulls will face
Capital and Eastern Mennonite.
