SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
basketball team dropped its second consecutive Capital Athletic
Conference game Wednesday evening as Catholic University dealt the
Sea Gulls a 62-58 loss at the Maggs Center.
The Cardinals (12-2, 4-2 CAC) used clutch free throw shooting
over the final 1:04 of the game to preserve the victory. CUA's
Patrick Dwyer hit on 4-of-4 down the stretch while the Cardinals
leading scorer, Scott Fumai (22 points), hit on 4-of-6.
Ray Williams, the conference's top scorer,
continued to light up the stat sheets as he tallied 17 first half
points on way to his game-high 25 points. Williams shot 50 percent
from the field and added five rebounds.
The Sea Gulls (9-6, 4-2 CAC) trailed early in the contest as
Catholic jumped out to an early 10-0 lead just 2:47 into the game.
The first Salisbury bucket came at the 14:33 mark when Williams hit
on a long range shot to cut the lead to 10-3.
Salisbury would go on yet another dry spell over the next 5:17
as Catholic built up a 15-3 lead before Williams connected on his
second three-point shot. SU closed out the half on a 23-12 run to
go into the break down one, 27-26.
The Sea Gulls would grab their first lead of the game with 14:50
to play in the game as Jonas Vaitkus laid one in
off a feed from Devin Jones to give SU a 33-31
advantage. Jones finished with a team-high three assists and added
12 points while Vaitkus pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and

as large as a five point advantage in the second half.

the Cardinals.
This is the third straight game that Catholic has defeated
