WASHINGTON, D.C. - The No. 5 Salisbury
University women's lacrosse team picked up its sixth win in a row
Saturday afternoon with an 19-8 Capital Athletic Conference win
over Catholic University in front of a crowd of 477.
The Sea Gulls received four goals apiece from senior Ani
Khatchatoorian and junior Jessica Liston
and four points from junior Sue Ackermann (one
goal, three assists) and senior Stephanie Shores
(two goals, two assists).
Salisbury (6-0, 3-0 CAC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before
Catholic (3-2, 1-1 CAC) was able to get on the board. The next four
goals went Salisbury's way as it built a 7-1 lead.
CUA's Courtney Murray added her second goal of the game to cut
the Salisbury lead to 7-2. The Sea Gulls closed out the half on a
5-0 run to lead 12-2 at the half.
Catholic scored three of the first four goals in the second half
to cut the SU lead to eight, 13-5, with 22:04 left in the game but
Shores and Khatchatoorian netted back-to-back goals less than a
minute apart to push the Sea Gull lead to 15-5.
The Sea Gulls and Cardinals traded the next five goals to make
the score 17-8. Shores and Khatchatoorian scored the game's last
two goals to cap the win for Salisbury.
Salisbury won the battle of draw controls 16-13 and groundballs
26-23.
Freshman goalie Natalie Pappas picked up her
second win in as many days to make her record 2-0. CUA's Melissa
Brashear made 12 saves in the loss.
Salisbury will return to action at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 14,
as it hosts Marymount (Va.) University in a CAC contest at Sea Gull
Field.
