SALISBURY, Md. - The top-ranked and undefeated
Salisbury University men's lacrosse team won its 56th straight game
at Sea Gull Stadium as the maroon and gold blasted fifth-seeded
Goucher College 19-2 in Friday's Capital Athletic Conference
semifinal before 283. It was the final men's lacrosse game for the
Gophers (6-8) in the CAC as they will play in the newly formed
Landmark Conference next season.
Top-seeded Salisbury (17-0) advances to Sunday's championship
game where they will host No. 3 seed St. Mary's (Md.) College at 1
p.m. The Seahawks defeated No. 2 seed Villa Julie College 8-7 in
the other CAC semifinal. The winner of the CAC championship will
receive an automatic bid into the 2007 NCAA Division III
tournament.
Sophomore Kylor Berkman led all-scorers with
five goals and two assists as he scored three goals in the first
quarter alone. The Sea Gulls scored the game's first eight goals
and led 14-1 at the half. SU had 11 different goal scorers as every
player that dressed played.
Junior Matt Hickman scored two goals and two
assists and senior Eric Bishop netted a pair and
added an assist. Hickman now leads the team with 74 points (59
goals, 15 assists).
The home winning streak for Salisbury is the longest in the
nation and is a NCAA record in any division. The Sea Gulls
officially set the record on Tuesday as they beat Catholic 27-2 in
the CAC quarterfinals. The old record of 54 games was held by
Middlebury College from (2001-2006).
