FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Capital Athletic
Conference women's tennis championship will remain in
Fredericksburg, Va., for another year as top-seed University of
Mary Washington shut out No. 2 seed Salisbury 9-0 on Saturday
afternoon.
The Eagles, ranked No. 10 in the country and No. 4 in the
Atlantic South region, won every singles match in straight sets and
swept doubles. UMW (21-2) celebrates its fourth straight CAC title
while SU (12-8) finishes as conference runner-up for a second year
in a row.
The No. 2 doubles team for Salisbury of Jackie
Burr and Anna Marie Kable had the closes
match of the day as they lost 8-5 to Katie Miglin and Natalia
Fugate, who are ranked No. 14 in the region. The Sea Gulls are
ranked No. 15 in the region as a team.
Salisbury closes out its season tomorrow (April 22) at home as
the maroon and gold host Muhlenberg College, ranked No. 18 in the
region.
