SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 18 Salisbury
University men's soccer team dropped a key in-region game on
Saturday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex as Roanoke College
scored an early goal and held on to win 1-0.
Roanoke (6-3-1), ranked eighth in the South Region, registered
the games' only score 16 minutes into the first period as
Shaman Douglass deflected a Michael Rouhana shot from the right
side. Douglass' shot bounced off the right hand of Sea Gull
goalie Joshua Scotton and into the back of
the net.
The Sea Gulls (8-3-1) were led by junior midfielder Kyle
Sterling who provided four shots on the day, one on goal.
Scotton, a junior, made his first collegiate start for SU and
registered eight saves. Roanoke goalie Adam Thompson tallied three
saves.
This is the third loss in a row for the Sea Gulls who are 0-3-1
in the past four contests. Salisbury is ranked third in the region.
The Maroons notched 11 shots on the day, nine of which were on
goal, while Salisbury made nine shots (three on goal). Roanoke held
a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
SU will next travel to the Baltimore area to face Stevenson
University on Wednesday, October 8, at 4 p.m. in a Capital
Athletic Conference contest. The Sea Gulls defeated the Mustangs
2-0 last season.
