Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University
women's soccer team recorded a 1-1 double overtime tie with the
University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon in a Capital
Athletic Conference contest before a crowd of 200.
Salisbury freshman Sarah Jessilonis recorded
the only goal for the Sea Gulls (4-3-4, 2-0-2 CAC) late in the
first half. Jessilonis, the reigning CAC Player of the Week, scored
her second goal of the season 40 minutes into the game against the
Eagles. Jessilonis scored the game-winner last week for the maroon
and gold against defending CAC champion York (Pa.) College in
overtime.
Mary Washington (5-3-4, 3-1-2 CAC) was able to knot the game at
one with less than five minutes to play when Kim
Pernice scored an unassisted goal. With the score tied at
the end of regulation the teams proceeded to overtime. Neither team
was able to capitalize in the two overtime periods as each team
recorded their fourth tie of the season.
In the past eight games for SU the Sea Gulls have four ties to
their credit. The four tied games match Salisbury's school record
for ties in a season set in 2004. The two conference ties are the
most since 2000 for the maroon and gold.
Salisbury outshot Mary Washington 11-6 as the Sea Gulls placed
eight shots on goal, one in the overtime period. The Sea Gull
defense limited the Eagles to two shots on goal. SU held a slight
advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
SU goalie Gena Goodson made one save in 110
minutes of play as she has 47 saves this season. Eagle goalie Laura
McCarthy recorded seven saves in the loss.
Salisbury will remain on the road as the Sea Gulls travel to
Pomona, N.J., on Wednesday, October 8, for a non-conference 6 p.m.
game against the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
