OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Salisbury University
men's soccer team resumed its winning ways Wednesday with a
3-0 shutout over Stevenson University in a Capital
Athletic Conference game on the road. The victory ended the Sea
Gulls' three-game losing streak and brought its conference record
back to .500.
Salisbury (9-3-1, 2-2 CAC) was held scoreless for the first 52
minutes but would strike three times in the final 38 minutes of
play. Junior Kyle Sterling had a hand in every
goal as the forward recorded a career-high three assists. Sophomore
Ben DeLisle took a pass from
Sterling and beat Stevenson goalie Adam Wiatrowski
(six saves) to put the Gulls up, 1-0. The Sea Gulls struck again 10
minutes later when Sterling found sophomore Mike
Napolitano for his sixth goal of the season. Junior
Kenneth Price had the final score of the game in
the 72nd minute.
Stevenson (4-8-2, 0-3-1 CAC) only mustered eight shots against
the stingy Sea Gull defense. SU junior Joshua
Scotton earned the win in goal for the maroon and gold
where he made two saves. This is Scotton's first win this season as
SU's goalie.
Salisbury had 15 of its 20 total shots in the second half. The
Sea Gulls also took eight corner kicks, two more than the Mustangs.
The victory was the first for the maroon and gold since
September 20 when the Gulls defeated Lynchburg 2-1 in
double-overtime.
The Gulls will return home to take on CAC opponent St. Mary's (Md.)
College on Saturday, October 11, at 2 p.m. at the SU Soccer
Complex.
