Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
basketball team captured its second consecutive victory on Tuesday
night as the Sea Gulls upended York (Pa.) College, 74-63, in a
Capital Athletic Conference contest in front of a crowd of 293
at the Maggs Center.
The Sea Gulls (3-7, 1-1 CAC) were led by junior guard
Greg Palmer who scored 20 points, three rebounds
and made three assists. It was Palmer's fifth consecutive game with
11 points or more. Salisbury junior guard Devin
Jones added 14 points and eight rebounds in the
backcourt. Sophomore center Chris McGrew
netted eight points and ripped down six rebounds. Senior guard
Sean Whittaker added nine points and five
rebounds off the bench for the maroon and gold.
York (3-6, 1-2 CAC) claimed only two leads in the contest with
the last on a Dylan Hoffman jumper at the 16:45 mark of the
first half. At that point, SU would go on an 8-0 run and would
never look back. The Sea Gulls would stretch their lead to as
high as 19 on a three-pointer by Jones with a little under two
minutes left in the first frame. Salisbury would carry an
impressive 37-23 lead at halftime. In the first half, Jones
scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. SU was aided by
an 8-for-28 shooting performance (28.6 percent) by the
Spartans in the first half.
The Sea Gulls came out of intermission a bit sluggish as
the Spartans cut the SU lead to six points,
41-35, just five minutes in. Salisbury would rebound with
six straight points. SU's lead would not drop under 10 points
until the eight-minute mark but Palmer would drain a
three-pointer 10 seconds later to extend the lead to 11. In
the second half, Palmer shot 8-for-8 from the free-throw
line and tallied 15 points.
York had three players register double-digit scores in Nick
Brady (13 points, eight rebounds), Julian Watson (13 points, three
rebounds) and Matt Moley (10 points, three rebounds). The Spartans
shot only 20 percent (2-for-10) from beyond the three-point line in
the game.
The Sea Gulls will take a three-week layoff for winter break and
will return to action in the New Year on Saturday, January 3.
SU will welcome the Shoremen of Washington College for a 7 p.m.
matchup between the two Eastern Shore rivals.
