ARLINGTON, Va. - The top-ranked Salisbury
University men's lacrosse team faced its first deficit since the
2007 NCAA Division III national championship game on Wednesday
afternoon on the road against Capital Athletic Conference opponent
Marymount (Va.) University. The Saints (3-2, 0-2 CAC) scored two
quick goals on the Sea Gulls (7-0, 3-0 CAC) in the first two
minutes, which forced Coach Jim Berkman to call a
timeout.
The Sea Gulls regrouped and scored the next eight goals in seven
minutes including three goals in a minute. Salisbury went on to win
24-8.
SU has won 30 games in a row since the beginning of the 2007
season. The Sea Gulls are a perfect 93-0 all-time in CAC play, 74-0
during the conference regular-season. Salisbury has won 69
consecutive regular-season games since 2003.
Marymount scored twice more before the half where Salisbury led
15-4. Senior midfielder Kyle Burto led the Gulls
with three first half goals followed by attackmen Greg
Titus (two goals) and Patrick Bonanno
(three goals) who both tallied two goals in the first 30 minutes of
play.
Senior Matt Hickman (four goals, two assists)
scored two of his game-high four goals in the first five minutes of
the second half as the Sea Gulls led 19-4. Marymount scored four of
the next seven goals to cut the lead to 22-8. The Sea Gulls closed
out the game with back-to-back goals by Stephen
Krasco (two goals) and Erik Krum.
Junior midfielder Kylor Berkman (two goals,
four assists) matched Hickman's six-point game. Seniors
Bruce Richardson, Kevin Kustron
and sophomore Mike Von Kamecke (one assist) were
the other Sea Gulls to score two goals apiece.
SU junior goalie Riley Clark (one save) did not
make it out of the first quarter as junior transfer Zach
Krissoff (seven saves) came in to play over 38 minutes in
goal for the maroon and gold. Both Clark and Krissoff gave up three
Saint goals. Senior goalkeeper Nick Fiorentino
played the final 10 minutes for Salisbury.
Marymount goalie Alex Hammer made 15 saves in between the pipes
for the Saints in 38 minutes. The Saints were led by David
Abramson's three goals and Kevin Conklin's two goals.
Salisbury outshot Marymount 59-24 and scooped up 66 ground
balls.
The Sea Gulls return home to face Denison University on Sunday,
March 16, at Noon in Sea Gull Stadium.
