CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Salisbury University
women's tennis team traveled to California for its Spring Break
trip and managed a 3-0 sweep of its opponents while on the West
Coast. The Sea Gulls went a combined 21-6 in the 27 matches they
participated in.
Salisbury (8-2) started their trip off with a tough matchup
against Colorado College as the Gulls earned a hard-fought 5-4
victory. Junior Anna Marie Kable and sophomore
Jackie Burr teamed up to set the tone for SU as
they won the No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. Kable also claimed the No. 1
singles victory for the Sea Gulls as she defeated Kelsey Smith,
6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The Sea Gulls traveled to Whittier College the next day and
swept the Poets 9-0. In singles play Kable, junior Robyn
Wendell, junior Hannah Parsons, sophomore
Rachel Iosue and sophomore Jackie
Burr all had shutout sets (6-0) on their way to singles
victories. Doubles play was no different as the maroon and gold
went a combined 18-2 in their three matches.
SU rounded out its trip with a 7-2 victory over Occidental
College on Wednesday, March 19, in Los Angeles. The Sea Gulls' No.
1 and No. 2 doubles teams were pushed to the brink but both came
away with 8-6 victories. Sophomore Kelly Fahrner
was challenged in No. 2 singles as she went three sets with Alayna
Santos, 6-4, 1-6, 10-5. Wendell, Burr and Parsons won at No. 4, No.
5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to secure the overall victory
for the Gulls.
