Salisbury blanks Gallaudet 31-0 in doubleheader sweep

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 8 Salisbury University baseball team kept its consecutive win streak alive Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Field with back-to-back shut out victories (12-0 and 19-0) over Capital Athletic Conference foe Gallaudet University.

Salisbury (22-1, 9-0 CAC) has won its last 22 straight games and has not tasted defeat since February 9. Along the way SU has outscored its opponents 275-42 and posted five shutouts (three straight). The Gulls have scored 10 or more runs in 12 of their 22 victories as today's games are the 11th and 12th, respectively.

Senior Randy Boyle led the way at the plate as he finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with two doubles and a RBI. Senior Mark Bostwick (3-for-6, triple, three RBIs) and freshman Andrew Miller (3-for-6, triple, four RBIs) finished the day with an .833 slugging percentage. Senior Brian Camper (3-for-7, two stolen bases) and junior Jordan Crystal (3-for-8, double) both tallied four RBIs on the day.

The two wins against the Bison showcased several young Sea Gulls on the mound. Freshman Alex Duda got the start in Game 1 where he struck out six of the first nine batters he faced en route to six scoreless innings pitched. The young right-hander allowed one hit and recorded nine strikeouts in his first win of the season.

In the second game, four different Sea Gulls took the hill for SU and each prevented a Bison base runner from crossing home plate. Freshman Drew Baldwin (1-0) got the win as he threw four scoreless innings and allowed one hit. Lucas Hanson, Bryan Bloch and Kyle Judson all pitched one inning of relief. Judson allowed a hit but struck out three.

Five freshman recorded hits in the two victories for the Sea Gulls which led to nine RBIs, two triples and doubles.

SU turns around to travel to York, Pa., tomorrow (Sunday, March 30) to face the Spartans of York (Pa.) College in a CAC doubleheader that begins at Noon.
