SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 8 Salisbury University
baseball team kept its consecutive win streak alive Saturday
afternoon at Sea Gull Field with back-to-back shut out victories
(12-0 and 19-0) over Capital Athletic Conference foe Gallaudet
University.
Salisbury (22-1, 9-0 CAC) has won its last 22 straight games and
has not tasted defeat since February 9. Along the way SU has
outscored its opponents 275-42 and posted five shutouts (three
straight). The Gulls have scored 10 or more runs in 12 of their 22
victories as today's games are the 11th and 12th, respectively.
Senior Randy Boyle led the way at the plate as
he finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with two doubles and a RBI.
Senior Mark Bostwick (3-for-6, triple, three RBIs)
and freshman Andrew Miller (3-for-6, triple, four
RBIs) finished the day with an .833 slugging percentage. Senior
Brian Camper (3-for-7, two stolen bases) and
junior Jordan Crystal (3-for-8, double) both
tallied four RBIs on the day.
The two wins against the Bison showcased several young Sea Gulls
on the mound. Freshman Alex Duda got the start in
Game 1 where he struck out six of the first nine batters he faced
en route to six scoreless innings pitched. The young right-hander
allowed one hit and recorded nine strikeouts in his first win of
the season.
In the second game, four different Sea Gulls took the hill for
SU and each prevented a Bison base runner from crossing home plate.
Freshman Drew Baldwin (1-0) got the win as he
threw four scoreless innings and allowed one hit. Lucas
Hanson, Bryan Bloch and Kyle
Judson all pitched one inning of relief. Judson allowed a
hit but struck out three.
Five freshman recorded hits in the two victories for the Sea
Gulls which led to nine RBIs, two triples and doubles.
SU turns around to travel to York, Pa., tomorrow (Sunday, March
30) to face the Spartans of York (Pa.) College in a CAC
doubleheader that begins at Noon.
