SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's tennis team dominated Bridgewater (Va.) College in a
non-conference 8-1 win Saturday afternoon at the SU Indoor Tennis
Center.
Salisbury junior Anna Marie Kable came through
with a win at No. 1 singles over Hilary Teeter 7-6 (8-6), 6-0.
Sophomore Kelly Fahrner defeated Marlena Pipkin
6-2, 7-6 (7-5) with a second set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Rachel Iosue and junior Robyn
Wendell dominated No. 3 and 4 singles over Alissa Michael
and Jessica Hill 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively. Sophomore
Jackie Burr and junior Hannah
Parsons fared well against Diana Ricker and Megan Mathis
in No. 5 and 6 singles 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively. This
was Burr's '08 debut as she has been out the past four matches.
The Sea Gulls (3-2) went 2-for-3 at doubles as Salisbury won at
No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The duo of Burr and Kable defeated
Bridgewater's No. 1 team of Ricker and Teeter, 8-2. Parsons and
Wendell won at No. 3 doubles with an 8-6 win over Michael and Kelly
O'Connell. Salisbury lone setback came at No. 2 doubles as
Bridgewater's team of Hill and Pipken won 8-4 over Fahrner and
Iosue.
Salisbury will close out its weekend with a road match at Chowan
University on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m.
