Box Score YORK, Pa. - Devin Jones
tallied a career-high 27 points as the Salisbury University men's
basketball team claimed its fourth win in the past five games
with a 77-70 Capital Athletic Conference victory over York (Pa.)
College on Saturday afternoon. Jones was perfect from three-point
range (5-for-5) and the free-throw line (8-for-8) as the junior
guard also grabbed five rebounds and made two steals.
Salisbury (5-8, 2-2 CAC) trailed to start the game as York
(3-11, 1-4 CAC) took an 8-2 lead in the first five minutes of the
contest. The teams would trade baskets before SU took the lead,
16-14, with 10 minutes left in the half on the second three-pointer
of the game from Jones. The maroon and gold took a seven-point
lead twice in the half and would go into halftime
ahead 32-28.
The early minutes of the second half saw a back-and-forth
battle. A jumper by Matt Moley put York up one, 35-34, at the 15:21
mark but the lead would not last for long. Sea Gull forward
Drew Dickson made a lay-up 52 seconds later to
erase the Spartan lead. The Sea Gulls never looked back en route to
their second conference win. York remained in the game as the
Spartans pulled to within two points on a jumper by Paul Kouvaris
(10 points, six rebounds) but Salisbury would answer once more.
Jones drained another three-point basket to give the Gulls a 61-56
advantage.
In addition to Jones the Sea Gulls had two other players reach
double figures. Junior guard Ronald Mann scored a
season-high 15 points and four assists while fellow junior
Greg Palmer tallied his eighth straight
double-digit point game with 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore
forward Ryan Hourihan continued his impressive
week with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
York's Jeremy Keefer was one rebound shy of a double-double as
he had 26 points and nine rebounds Julian Watson added 11 points
and three rebounds in the loss.
Salisbury shot 52.8 percent from the field and 46 percent from
three-point range. York outrebounded the Sea Gulls, 42-34, but
struggled shooting from the field (37 percent).
SU sweeps the regular-season series with the Spartans as the
Gulls won 74-63 on December 9.
Salisbury looks to continue its winning ways as the Sea Gulls
finish up their three-game CAC road trip with a visit north up
Rt. 13 to face Wesley College on Wednesday, January 14, at 8 p.m.
