Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
basketball team cruised to a 96-65 victory over Gallaudet
University in a Capital Athletic Conference contest Saturday at the
Maggs Center as the Sea Gulls reached several season-high totals.
The 31-point margin of victory is the largest in the past eight
seasons and the 96 points scored are the most since February 14,
2007, when SU lost a record five overtime contest to Marymount
(Va.) University 126-122. SU totaled season-high marks in field
goals made (35), three-point field goals made (eight), assists (18)
and steals (10).
Salisbury (6-9, 3-3 CAC) had four players reach double-digit
point totals as the Gulls were by sophomore center Chris
McGrew, who scored a career-high 18 points behind a
7-for-11 shooting performance from the field. Junior guard
Greg Palmer (16 points, nine rebounds) rebounded
from a scoreless first half to notch his 10th straight game with
double-digit points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.
Senior guard Sean Whittaker had a season-high 13
points off the bench and junior guard Devin
Jones (13 points, three steals) dished out a
season-high seven assists.
The Sea Gulls evened their CAC record as they led from start to
finish over Gallaudet (7-6, 0-6 CAC). Salisbury had 12 different
players score at least two points in the win.
SU came out of the gates strong as the Gulls tallied the first
six points of the game, all of which came from McGrew. Salisbury's
lead would drop to two points, 17-15, at the 13-minute mark on a
three-pointer by Gallaudet's Tony Tatum (18 points) but the Sea
Gulls would use a 9-2 run over the next three minutes to quiet the
Bison. SU would pour on the scoring to end the half and went into
intermission with a comfortable 45-31 lead. The maroon and gold
shot an astounding 69 percent (20-for-29) in the first half. McGrew
led all scorers with 12 first half points.
Salisbury continued its balanced scoring to begin the second
half and went on a 13-2 run to take a 25-point lead, 58-33, two
minutes into the half. Palmer totaled 14 of his 16 overall points
in the first 10 minutes of the half. Salisbury continued to pad its
lead that reached 31 after a lay-up by freshman guard
Franco Greco. SU shot an impressive 18-for-19 from
the free-throw line for the entire game.
In addition to Tatum the Bison were fueled by Sekoe White (11
points, six assists, three rebounds) and Jeremy Thrush (nine
points) who shot 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
The Sea Gulls look to continue their winning ways on Monday,
January 19, at 8 p.m. when they welcome CAC foe Stevenson
University. Salisbury and Stevenson split the season series last
season, 1-1.
