LYNCHBURG, Va. - The No. 20 Salisbury
University men's soccer team fell at Lynchburg College Saturday
afternoon, 2-1. The Sea Gulls battled back from a 1-0 deficit to
tie the game at 1-1, but a late goal by Lynchburg midfielder Pat
Brown, with less than five minutes to play, would be the
difference.
The Hornets (9-1-1) claimed the 1-0 lead on a goal in the fourth
minute. The Sea Gulls (8-2-1, 2-0-1 Capital Athletic Conference)
came back and got the equalizer from sophomore Morgan Hunt
(Millsboro, Del.) in the 42nd minute. Salisbury
played the ball into Kyle Sterling (Salisbury,
Md.), who was able to get around a defender, getting the
ball to the end line. Sterling played the ball back to Hunt inside
the top of the box where he first-timed the ball into the upper
part of the net. The goal was Hunt's second of the season.
The Sea Gulls dominated in almost every statistical category on
the day, holding a 15-6 edge on shots and an 8-1 advantage in
corner kicks. Salisbury senior goalkeeper Greg Wellinghoff
(Salisbury, Md.) made two saves in the match.
Salisbury got good play in the midfield from freshman
Jimmy Mundy (Ellicott City, Md.) and senior
Ben Reed (Arnold, Md.) and up front from Sterling
and senior Nick Malone (Salisbury, Md.).
The Sea Gulls will get back to Capital Athletic Conference play
on Wednesday when they host Stevenson University. The match is set
to begin at 4 p.m. at the SU Soccer Complex.
