Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Salisbury University
men's basketball team, fresh off of a two-win weekend in which it
captured the Optimist Classic championship, faced off against
Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.) College on
Wednesday night. The Sea Gulls fell to the Seahawks, 72-60.
Salisbury (3-4, 0-2 CAC) shot out of the gates, going on a 10-0
scoring run in the first three minutes of the game. The Seahawks
(6-1, 3-0 CAC) quickly answered back and eventually took the
lead, entering the second half with a nine-point advantage. Both
teams played aggressively in a second half which was relatively
even, but the Seahawks' point advantage was too much for the Sea
Gulls to surpass.
The maroon and gold's tough defense limited Seahawk Camontae
Griffin, who is averaging 26 points per game, to just 17 points on
the night. When the Sea Gulls faced off against St. Mary's earlier
this season, they held Griffin to just 15 points. Those two numbers
are among the lowest point totals for Griffin this season.
The Sea Gulls saw four players score double-digits, including
Mike Mackzo (Bel Air, Md.), who posted a
double-double. The sophomore forward scored a career-high 15
points and pulled down 11 rebounds on the night. Senior guards
Devin Jones (Severn, Md.) and Greg
Palmer (Salisbury, Md.) added to the Sea Gulls'
scoring by netting 15 and 12 points, respectively, and junior
center Chris McGrew (Burtonsville, Md.)
scored 16 points in the game.
Salisbury will now travel to Newport News, Va., to take
part in the Newport Classic on Dec. 12-13. The first game of that
weekend, against Christopher Newport University, will be played on
Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.; the second game is TBA. The Sea Gulls' next
home contest will be on Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. against Virginia
Wesleyan College.
