Box Score SALISBURY, Md.
- Most teams would be nervous about hosting the
No. 16 team in the country. Obviously, the Salisbury University
men's basketball team isn't one of them. The Sea Gulls squared off
against Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary's (Md.)
College, upsetting the Seahawks in a 76-66 victory. The
victory marks head coach Steve Holmes' 100th win as
Salisbury University's men's basketball coach.
Both teams played aggressively throughout, and the foul totals
showed it: the Sea Gulls and Seahawks committed a total of 35 fouls
in the contest. Salisbury took advantage of its opportunities from
the line, going 10-for-14 (71%). The Sea Gulls were led by senior
guard Devin Jones (Severn, Md.) who hit
double-digit point totals in the first half (12), including a
clutch jump shot with just 11 seconds left in the first half to
give Salisbury a 34-33 lead at halftime.
Salisbury (9-8, 5-4 CAC) continued its assault on St. Mary's
(14-3, 7-2 CAC) in the second half, pulling away with 10 minutes
left to play. As the Sea Gulls amassed a nine-point lead with just
over four minutes to play, Jones left the game with an injury.
Salisbury was undeterred. Senior guard Greg Palmer
(Salisbury, Md.) hit a clutch three-pointer with 39
seconds left in the game to give the Sea Gulls a six-point lead; he
finished the night with 24 points. The maroon and gold tacked four
more on before it was all said and done, taking down the Seahawks
by 10. Jones finished with 18 points. Salisbury has now won three
straight games.
The Sea Gulls will look to continue their winning ways as they
hit the road to play at CAC opponent Hood College on Jan. 27.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. Sea Gull fans planning to travel to the
game, which will be played on a military installation, should pay
