Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Salisbury University men's basketball team suffered a tough 70-64 loss at Stevenson University on Tuesday night, despite leading by double-figures late in the contest.
Junior forward Mike Maczko converted a lay-up with 3:38 remaining to give the Sea Gulls a 64-53 lead, but it would be the last point that Salisbury (2-2, 0-1 Capital Athletic Conference) would score as the Mustangs would run off 17-straight points to close the game.
Salisbury controlled much of the contest, ending the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 40-31 lead at halftime and the Sea Gulls would keep the lead at seven points or more until Stevenson went on its run to close the game.
The Mustangs (3-2, 1-0 CAC) connected on 4-of-6 field goals, including 3-of-3 three-pointers, in the closing three minutes of the game. Stevenson also took advantage of six free-throw attempts, making them all. In the game, Stevenson made 27 trips to the charity stripe, compared to Salisbury's four free-throw attempts.
Stevenson saw three players finish in double figures, led by Greg Woody's 21 points, he also added five assists and five steals.
Salisbury was paced by senior center Chris McGrew, who put up 16 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Devin Posey added 10 points. Maczko came up just short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, he also added five steals.
The Sea Gulls will play their first home game of the season at Maggs Physical Activities Center on Wednesday, December 1, when they host Hood College. Later that week, Salisbury will play host to the annual Optimist Classic.
