Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 3 ranked Salisbury
University women's lacrosse team refused to let the rainy weather
dampen its spirits as the Sea Gulls captured a solid 10-4 win
against No. 19 ranked Washington & Lee University at Sea Gull
Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The win marks Salisbury's
third-straight.
The key to Salisbury's success was its ball control, which led
to a barrage of shots; the Sea Gulls outshot the Generals 17-5 in
the first half, 11 of which were on goal. Senior attacker
Kim Cudmore
(Bel Air, Md.) opened and eventually wrapped up
scoring in the first half for the Sea Gulls, finding the back of
the net just 1:33 into the match to give Salisbury (3-0, 1-0
Capital Athletic Conference) a 1-0 advantage. Her second goal came
off of a Jess Chmielewski
(Woodbine, Md.) assist with 2:29 left on the clock to
give Salisbury a commanding 7-2 lead going into the second half.
Chmielewski, a senior midfielder, notched a goal of her own in the
first half to go with her assist.
The Generals (0-1) would score just 1:25 into the second half,
but Sea Gull junior midfielder Aileen McCausland
(Phoenix, Md.) quickly negated that goal to preserve
Salisbury's five-goal advantage. The Sea Gulls would stretch that
lead out as the clock wound down to finish six goals ahead of the
Generals. Cudmore finished with a team-high four points (two goals,
two assists) while Chmielewski finished with two goals and one
assist. On the season, the maroon and gold have outscored their
opponents an astounding 52-11.
Junior goalkeeper Julie Ann
Caulfield (Drexel Hill, Pa.) spent the entire game in
between the pipes and was forced to make only two saves to
collect her second win of the season.
The Sea Gulls will play two games on the road before they return
home on March 6 to square off against Catholic University of
America at 1 p.m.
