WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The No. 4 Salisbury
University men's lacrosse team defeated Widener University 9-7 on
the road Saturday in front of 895 in attendance at Leslie C. Quick
Jr. Stadium. The win marks the second road victory of the season
for the Sea Gulls.
The Pride (0-2) got on the board first, with a goal by Andrew
Janu
sz less than three minutes into the game. The Sea Gulls (3-0)
evened things up just a minute later with a goal scored by senior
attackman Jake DeLillo (Yorktown
Heights, N.Y.) off an assist from sophomore attackman
Matt
Cannone (Bayport, N.Y.). Widener would tally another
goal before the Sea Gulls reeled off three more to close out the
quarter, including an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder
Sam Bradman
(Canton, N.Y.) (three goals).
The Pride would outscore the Sea Gulls 2-1 in the second quarter,
including a goal with just two seconds left in the half, to bring
the score to 5-4 as the teams headed to the dressing room.
In the third quarter, the Gulls would turn the tables and outscore
Widener 2-1. SU would get goals from sophomore midfielder
Tim Lum (Long
Valley, N.J.) and Cannone.
In the fourth quarter the Sea Gulls would open up with a pair of
unassisted goals by Bradman and freshman attackman Eric Law (Centennial,
Colo.) in the first four minutes. Junior goalkeeper
Johnny
Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) would stave off six shots
in the quarter.
The Sea Gulls outshot the Pride 40-26 in the contest, with Widener
winning the ground ball advantage at 32-27 and face-offs (8-of-15).
Pride goalkeeper Kevin Carney made 15 saves.
