Box Score YORK, Pa. - Salisbury senior guard/forward
Greg
Palmer could do little wrong Monday night for the
men's basketball team. The Salisbury, Md., native connected on
9-of-12 field goal attempts in his team's game at York (Pa.)
College and finished with 25 points, but it was not enough as the
Sea Gulls fell to the Spartans, 78-71. The loss ends Salisbury's
five-game winning streak.
The Sea Gulls took their only lead of the game on a lay-up by
junior center Chris McGrew
(Burtonsville, Md.) 76 seconds into the game. The 5-3
lead would not last long as the Spartans (17-4, 9-3 Capital
Athletic Conference) took the lead back with 16:23 showing on the
clock in the first half. It would be the final time the lead would
change hands in the game, though the contest was never out of hand.
Salisbury (11-9, 7-5 CAC) would not let York's lead grow to more
than nine points in the first half and the game was tied with 16:14
to play in the game after another McGrew lay-in. McGrew finished
with 18 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
A 16-7 York run midway through the second half stretched the
Spartan lead to 66-55 with just over six minutes to play, but the
Sea Gulls would not go quietly. Palmer connected on a pair of
three-pointers to lead Salisbury on a 14-7 run that would get the
Sea Gulls within four points with a minute and a half to play.
Palmer was 5-for-5 from beyond the arc on the night.
But York would connect on six of its final eight attempts from
the free throw line to seal the victory, as the teams split the
season series with each team winning on its home floor.
Senior guard Devin Jones (Severn,
Md.) and sophomore guard Mike Maczko (Bel Air,
Md.) each finished with 11 points while Jones added
six assists and Maczko pulled down eight rebounds.
The Sea Gulls' next contest will be at Marymount (Va.)
University on Thursday, Feb. 11. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. The game
was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10 before being
postponed due to the heavy winter storm that hit the Middle
Atlantic section of the country this past weekend, causing
postponements throughout the Capital Athletic Conference.
Salisbury's next home game will be Saturday, Feb. 13, when
Stevenson University will visit Maggs Physical Activities Center.
