SALISBURY, Md.
- The No. 3-ranked Salisbury University women's
lacrosse team defeated No. 10 Catholic University of America 16-7
on Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium in front of a crowd of more than
300 in attendance.
The Sea Gulls (5-0) would get on the board less than two minutes
into the contest, when junior midfielder Aileen McCausland
(Phoenix, Md.) fired home her eighth goal of the
season off an assist from junior attacker Trish DiGirolomo
(Davidsonville, Md.). The Cardinals (1-1) evened
things up shortly before the Gulls went on a three-goal run with
McCausland scoring a pair of goals. The story repeated itself from
there as Catholic scored again before the Gulls went on another
three-goal run to bring the score to 7-2 with 6:42 remaining in the
first half. From there, the two teams would each score two goals to
bring the score to 9-4 in favor of Salisbury at halftime.
The Cardinals would open up the half with a pair of goals to
bring the score to 9-6, but that was as close as the score would be
the rest of the way as the maroon and gold kept scoring in bunches.
Over the final 20 minutes Salisbury would outscore Catholic 7-1.
The scoring for the day would be capped off with a goal by junior
attacker Logan
Bilderback (Arnold, Md.) assisted by senior
midfielder Beth Rhodey (Fallston,
Md.) with just 37 seconds remaining.
The Gulls were led by McCausland, as she established new
career-highs in both points (six) and goals (five). Senior attacker
Kim Cudmore
(Bel Air, Md.) tallied five points on the day, as she
scored two goals and dished out a game-high three assists.
Bilderback finished second in scoring for SU as she scored three
goals on four shots. Senior midfielder Jessica Chmielewski
(Woodbine, Md.) scored two goals and wreaked havoc on
the defensive side as she caused a game-high four turnovers. Senior
defender Jess Glazer (Ellicott City,
Md.) scooped up six ground balls in the victory.
Junior goalkeeper Julie Ann
Caulfield (Drexel Hill, Pa.) recorded a career-high 10
saves in the contest as she played all 60 minutes.
The Cardinals were led by attacker Laura Haring as she scored
two goals and dished out one assist. The Catholic offense was
affected by the injury of 2009 first-team All-American Kate
Robinson, as she left in early in the contest with an undisclosed
injury.
The Sea Gulls will hit the road for a Capital Athletic
Conference contest with York (Pa.) College this Friday in York, Pa.
at 3:30 p.m.
