Salisbury shuts out York, advances to CAC championship

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team earned its eighth shutout victory of the season on Tuesday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference tournament semifinal match, against York (Pa.) College, to advance to the CAC championships on April 22.

The match was the final home contest for seniors Angela Tenaglia and Amy Matonak; Tenaglia teamed up with sophomore Jillian Poppe at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-1 win, and then proceeded to take a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

Tenaglia has certainly left her mark on the Sea Gull women's tennis program – her 34-4 singles record ranks her second in program history (by victories). Additionally, the Clarksville, Md., native's 89.4% win percentage in singles play gives her the best career singles record (by percentage).

Matonak, who donned a maroon and gold uniform for the first time this season, currently boasts a 5-1 singles record and 5-0 doubles record.

Salisbury's (14-2) opponent in the CAC championships will be the winner of the other semifinal match, between St. Mary's (Md.) College and the University of Mary Washington. Please check back on www.suseagulls.com for additional updates.
