FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 2 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team is looking to extend its dominance in conference play to a decade and started that quest with a convincing 17-9 win against No. 15 University of Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon.

For the third consecutive contest, junior Lauren Feusahrens has either set or matched her career high in points, this time setting a new high mark with seven points against the Eagles to lead the Salisbury (5-0) attack. The midfielder needed only the first half to match her career-high marks, netting four goals and dishing out two assists in the first 30 minutes of play. For the game, Feusahrens netted five goals and added two assists, giving her 18 goals and seven assists on the season.

Junior Katie Bollhorst netted three goals of her own and added three assists, giving her nine goals and 17 assists on the year. The attacker leads the team with 26 points so far this season. She also collected a career-high three ground balls in the contest.

The first 16 minutes of the contest was a seesaw battle between the two Capital Athletic Conference rivals. Feusahrens got the Sea Gulls on the board at the 19:59 mark in the first half on a free-position shot but was matched just 38 seconds later by Catherine Kennedy of Mary Washington (4-2) to knot the score at a goal apiece. Fourty-four seconds later, senior Carrie Bray put the Sea Gulls back ahead, 2-1. After a Mary Washington goal at the 14:08 mark, senior Alyssa Fowler scored 42 seconds later to put the Sea Gulls up 3-2.

After Fowler's goal, Feusehrens scored twice, once unassisted and the other with an assist from sophomore Shannon Carta to give Salisbury some breathing room at 5-2 with 7:06 remaining in the first half. After the Eagles Allie Kimmelman netted her second goal of the half to bring the score to 5-3, Salisbury ended the half with four unanswered goals to go into the half up, 9-3.

The scoreboard reflected Salisbury's overall control of the first half. The Sea Gulls outshot Mary Washington, 18-11, and collected five more ground balls than the Eagles. Mary Washington held a 7-6 edge in draw controls but were not able to translate that into success on the scoreboard.

The second half was much of the same statistically and on the scoreboard. While the Eagles were able to win more draw controls than Salisbury, 8-6, in the second half and 15-12 overall, they were outshot, 14-8, in the second half and 32-19 for the contest.

Senior Allie Wheatley added a pair of goals for the Sea Gulls, giving her a team-high 19 on the season.  

Sophomore Ashton Wheatley made the Sea Gull lead stand up, as she stopped four Eagle shots.

The Sea Gulls next game is against Elizabethtown (Pa.) College on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m., at Sea Gull Stadium.
