Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team claimed at least a share of its 10th-straight Capital Athletic Conference regular season title with a 20-2 win against No. 20 Stevenson University on Sunday and locked up the top seed in the CAC tournament that begins on Saturday.
Senior Alyssa Fowler led the Salisbury (15-0, 7-0 CAC) attack with five points, netting four goals and dishing out an assist. Junior Lauren Feusahrens matched Fowler with four goals in the contest for the Sea Gulls. With those goals, Feusahrens moves into the top 10, at No. 10, on Salisbury's single-season goals scored list.
Fowler got Salisbury on the board just 38 seconds into the contest, set up by classmate Amanda Holsclaw. Just 27 seconds later, Feusahrens added her first goal of the game to give the Sea Gulls an early 2-0 lead.
Senior Allie Wheatley scored the first of three goals on the day with 26:06 remaining in the first half, which proved to be enough offense against Stevenson (7-6, 4-3 CAC). Feusahrens netted a pair of goals to give the Sea Gulls a 5-0 lead just 6:20 into the contest. Stevenson's Leah Warner stopped the Salisbury run with a goal with 22:59 remaining in the first half.
The Sea Gulls netted the next five goals of the contest, bringing the score to 10-1 with 15:39 remaining in the first half, capped off with a goal by senior Carrie Bray. Two minutes later, Warner netted her second goal of the contest, to make the score 10-2. After the Mustangs' final score of the afternoon, Salisbury scored 10 unanswered goals to end the contest.
Sophomore Ashton Wheatley made seven saves to get the win. Classmate Hannah Whiteley relieved her in goal with 18:51 remaining in the contest, stopping all four Mustang shots she faced.
After having been on the road for the last five contests, the Sea Gulls return home for Senior Day on Wednesday, hosting CAC and Route 13 rival Wesley College. With a win, Salisbury will claim sole possession of the CAC regular season crown. Game time is set for 4 p.m., at Sea Gull Stadium.
