Women's tennis falls at Mary Washington in CAC championship, 8-1

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team competed in the Capital Athletic Conference championship match for the seventh year in a row, traveling to the University of Mary Washington on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Eagles, 8-1.

The second-seeded Sea Gulls (11-10) picked up one of the three doubles matches, with the top-ranked duo of junior Jillian Poppe and freshman Roxanne Alban improving to 14-6 this season, with an 8-5 win against Michelle Meadows and Jocelyn Lewis.

The top-seeded Eagles (15-6) earned wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches. Junior Elaina Iosue and freshman Katie Youlios lost 8-4 at No. 2 while junior Victoria Handlin and freshman Allison Lutz fell at No. 3, 8-5.

Poppe played the closest match in singles play. After taking the first set against Lindsay Raulston 6-3, Poppe fell in the second, 6-2. Raulston earned the third-set super tie-breaker, 10-4 to take the match

Iosue took six games at No. 2 singles against Meadows, falling 6-4, 6-2 while Alban (6-4, 6-0), at No. 3, and Handlin (6-3, 6-1), at No. 5, each won four games.

Youlios dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 4 and Lutz fell at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1.
