YORK, Pa. – The Salisbury University men and women's swimming teams fell to conference-foe York College of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon, as the men recorded a score of 157-105 and the women came up just short with a score of 135-127.
Men
The men's squad kicked off the day in the 200-yard medley relay, grabbing four points with a second-place finish. Freshmen Okan Eyigor, Kevin Drury and Travis Maida and senior Chris Franklin competed for the second place with a time of 1:44.59.
Eyigor paced the Sea Gulls with three gold medals in individual events. The freshman started the day off in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 56.92. Following up his first victory, the Istanbul, Turkey native claimed the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.36, winning by a 13-second stretch. Eyigor finished the trifecta in the 100-yard butterfly swimming for a time of 54.71. For the meet, he tallied 27 points in three individual events.
The Gough brothers totaled 26 points for Salisbury in four events. Sophomore Will Gough grabbed top finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (22.20) and the 200-yard IM (2:06.73) for 18 points, while senior James Gough claimed second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (57.87) and the 500-yard freestyle for eight points.
Women
The women's squad collected six top finishes in individual events, paced by freshman Victoria Radcliffe with three gold medals. Radcliffe swam in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle for times of 2:00.72 and 5:24.46, respectively, for top finishes. To claim the hat trick for the meet, the freshman added the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:15.29. Radcliffe recorded 27 points in her individual events.
Sophomore Nicki Schult and freshman Layne Gable added 16 points apiece for the Sea Gulls. Schult grabbed a top finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:20.89), while finishing second behind Radcliffe in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.48) and third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.85). Gable swam for a top finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.56. The freshman also tallied a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.27) and third in the 200-yard IM (2:27.06).
Freshman Maggie Deering claimed the final gold medal for Salisbury in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.67. Deering also finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.15) to tally 13 points through her individual events.
Both squads take the month of December to prepare for the second half of the season with their next meet in the new year. The Gulls will welcome McDaniel College to Maggs Physical Activity Center on January 5 for Salisbury's last home meet of the season. The contest is set to begin at 1 p.m.
