Sea Gulls drop first leg of spring break trip, 8-1, to Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The Salisbury University women's tennis team began its spring break trip with an 8-1 loss against Chapman University, Monday afternoon at the Chapman Tennis Courts. This was the first of four matches the team will be playing this week in Southern California.

Salisbury (3-3) picked up its only point in the No. 1 singles matchup, with sophomore Natalie Savage getting the win over Chapman's (6-4) Andrea Hammer 7-5, 6-2.

The Sea Gulls nearly picked up a point from the No. 2 doubles matchup, with juniors Allison Lutz and Katie Youlios dropping their match, 9-7.

Savage and junior Roxanne Alban took an 8-3 loss at No. 1 doubles while junior Sam Babo and freshman Claudia Lohn suffered an 8-1 defeat at No. 3.

Alban battled to a 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 2 singles, while Lohn was able to win five games at No. 5 singles. After the Madison, Conn., native dropped the opening set, 6-1, she nearly evened the match, falling in the second set, 6-4.

Lutz played Anna Nelson close in the opening set at No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, before Nelson grabbed the second set, 6-0, for the win.

The team will be back in action tomorrow, taking on Occidental College in Los Angeles. That contest is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., eastern time.
