SALISBURY, Md. – Six Sea Gulls found the back of the net, as the No. 1 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 14-1 victory over Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.

An offense, paced by freshman midfielder Hannah Young with a career-high four goals and sophomore attacker Melissa Webster with a career-high six points off two goals and four assists, boasted 11 goals in the first half against the Knights (1-5) to put away the game early.

Young started the scoring for the Sea Gulls (7-0) just 34 seconds after the first draw, picking up a deflected first shot by sophomore midfielder Jessica Crew for the quick rip past Southern Virginia goalkeeper Kathryn Lyman. The Harleysville, Pa., native recorded her second goal with 22:42 remaining in the first half off a pass from junior midfielder Kylie Hanley across the middle for a high shot outside of the crease, giving Salisbury a 2-0 lead.

After a Hanley free-position goal, Young and Hanley hooked up for their second goal with 20 minutes remaining in the half, giving the Sea Gulls a four-goal lead. Crew added her first goal of the season less than two minutes later off a free-position shot.

Freshman midfielder Ariana Maxwell found the back of the net twice in her first collegiate game, both unassisted, with Webster splitting the two goals with a free-position goal. Young and Webster added two more tallies within 40 seconds of each other, while sophomore midfielder Katelin Talbert capped off the first half for an 11-0 lead.

Talbert kicked off the second half with back-to-back goals in the opening 17 minutes, and Hanley would finish off the scoring for the Sea Gulls with eight minutes remaining. All three goals were assisted by Webster who totaled a career-high four for the day.

The Knights would find the back of the net with 4:22 remaining, but the strong Sea Gull defense only allowed five shots through 60 minutes of play. Freshman Gabbi Nieves, Maxwell and Hanley all recorded two caused turnovers apiece, while Maxwell picked up a team-high four groundballs.

The Gulls dominated draw controls, 13-for-17, as Young won a game-high six. Salisbury outshot Southern Virginia, 22-5, with seven Gulls taking shots on goal.

Three Salisbury goalkeepers protected the net for the game, as junior Alyssa Harmke recorded the victory. It is Harmke's second collegiate victory, after recording last year's win against Wesley College. Sophomore Chelsea Weinstein guarded the goal for over 19 minutes in the contest, turning away one shot. Freshman Sarah Langenohl saw the field for the first time in her collegiate career, playing for 15:26 and recording one save.

With the 14-1 victory, the Sea Gulls have now won 30 consecutive games since February 23, 2013.

The women take the field again on Sunday, March 23, as Salisbury gets set to host the annual Pink Game at Sea Gull Stadium against No. 4 Franklin & Marshall College. Come wearing pink and support "Lax for the Cure." Fans will have the opportunity to donate in various ways, while all proceeds go to a local charity. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
